Cross Timbers Youth Orchestra will host auditions for string, woodwind and classical guitar musicians for student in elementary school through grade 12. Child musicians from Collin and surrounding counties are invited to try out between 6:30 and 8:30 p.m. Monday, Jan. 8, at McKinney Performing Arts Center, 111 N. Tennessee. Audition fee is $20.

Rec-N-Roll for third- through sixth-graders will be held from 7 to 11 p.m. Saturday at Joe Farmer Recreation Center, 1201 E. Bethany. The regular event features an evening of games, contests, gym activities, dancing and prizes. The cost is $8. Advance registration is $3, and an ID card is required.

The Allen Retired Educators Association, AREA, will meet at 11:15 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 15, at Ralph & Kacoo's, 401 Central Expressway.
