Friday and Saturday, Jan. 19-20, McKinney ISD will host 28 schools from North and East Texas for an Academic Decathlon regional meet. Volunteers are needed to help with 10 academic contests, especially for grading contestant essays and judging speeches and interviews. Training for graders and judges will take place immediately before the grading or judging times. Volunteers, age 18+, will receive a $40 stipend and a buffet dinner. Third Monday Trade Days market will be held from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday through Sunday, at U.S. Highway 380, two miles west of U.S. 75 in McKinney. Offerings include antiques, collectibles, food and more. Parking is $3.

The Dallas Area Train Show will be held this weekend at Plano Centre, 2000 E. Spring Creek Parkway. Hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday. The convention will include how-to clinics, videos, switching layouts and operating modular train layouts. Admission is $7 and children 12 and under are free.

The Art Club of McKinney will meet at 10 a.m. Thursday, Jan.11 at the Heard-Craig Carriage House, 205 W Hunt St. Jacqui Bush of stained glass of McKinney will be in charge of the program. The event is free and the public is invited.
